Fishing for Tuna and Marlin

Accommodation

Facilities provide for fishing groups from US$ 300/week to $950 /month. The units are self-contained, with satellite television, microwave, fridge etc and a King sized bed and furnished tastefully as you would expect in any motel in Australia. The gardens have BBQ facilities to smoke and grill ‘your catch’. Staff will clean your unit each day including laundry service and (clean your catch).

Sanur is a fishing village that has become a popular resort area for expatriates and foreign citizens from Australia, Europe, and Japan to name a few. When you are not fishing, cheap transport is available to take you from the units to the favorite haunts of international cuisine  and music such as the Cat and Fiddle where you can enjoy an ale and an Irish (jig or jug), whichever you prefer with the proprietor  and staff of the British Consulate. When you are finished, transport will take you back to the units. Known as the “Australian crawl”; there are many such restaurants now along the Sanur strip.

If you want a night out in Kuta, cars are available at the same rate as from the airport and the driver will wait for you. The charge is US$ 18 per car (carrying four people) for the day or evening.

Let us get down to fishing

Transport will take you to the beach early in the morning; all you need are an old pair of shoes and suitable clothing; hat and sun screen to protect you from the tropical sun The ‘ Village’ complex will supply all the bait and equipment plus a few helpful secrets that you may want to use when you return home.

Seaworthy motorized outriggers will take you to the fisherman’s workplace. Boats for hire and equipment, costs US$50 per person per day. (This includes sandwiches and fresh fruit). Not  Bintang beer but if you want to wind down, an Esky can be provided to ‘keep you cool’. In the event that you do not land a fish, a second day is offered free of charge. It is not likely to happen but that is a guarantee for you to enjoy your time fishing. Not catching a fish is worse than having a double bogey on a par three hole.

Squid are prolific in these waters; snapper, tuna, barracuda and the occasional sea bass (barramundi) are caught at ‘the fishermen’s haunt’. Your skipper is a local fisherman that makes his living selling fresh fish. Keep whatever you need and share the balance with your neighbors or the fisherman and his friend.

Bookings should be made two months in advance and groups of four or more people will be picked up from the airport at the local charge of US$5 per head per vehicle. If you have a baby, with you. Crusader Carers can organize a program to care for your child during your stay.
